Sébastien Duperron

Sébastien Duperron completed his PhD in deep-sea mytilid chemosynthetic symbioses in 2005 between Ifremer and Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology. He joined Université Pierre et Marie Curie as an Assistant Professor in 2006. His work focuses on deep-sea bacterial symbioses occurring in various metazoan groups including molluscs, annelids and arthropods, with an emphasis on comparative and evolutionary aspects, and adaptation to variable environmental conditions. He is also involved in studies of colonization processes and development of deep sea organisms. Approaches employed include in vivo experimentation, microscopy, biochemistry, molecular biology and phylogeny, and involve participation to oceanographic cruises. As a lecturer, Sébastien teaches general and animal biology, deep-sea ecology, and environmental microbiology at undergraduate and graduate levels.
