Obiefuna Okafor

.Dr. Obiefuna Okafor is a Senior Chemical Process Engineer at Corning Incorporated. Corning Incorporated is the world leader in specialty glass and ceramics. Corning creates and makes keystone components that enable high-technology systems for consumer electronics, mobile emissions control, telecommunications and life sciences. Dr Okafor is a seasoned Chemical Engineer with over eight years in Research and Development with strong diversified experience in Process Design, Development and Optimization; Scale-up of Chemical Processes; Process Intensification via Microreactor Technology; Kinetic Studies; Catalyst Formulation and Characterization; Pilot Plant Design, Construction and Trouble-Shooting; and Operation of Pressurized Microchannel Reactor, Continuous, Batch and Semi-Batch Systems. Recently he has been working on innovating portable energy solutions like the ultra-capacitor. The ultra-capacitor technology currently requires use of electrolytes as a medium for charge separation. Ionic liquids possess unique properties that make them an attractive medium for charge separation in ultra-capacitors. Developing suitable ionic liquids, as well as optimized methods for synthesis are crucial objectives of research and development for the next generation of electrolytes. Dr. Okafor received his Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, where he graduated with First Class Honors (Summa Cum Laude). He received his Master of Engineering and PHD in Chemical Engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology (Hoboken, NJ) where he specialized in Microreactor Technology applications for the specialty chemicals industry. Prior to joining Corning Incorporated, he worked as a Process/Systems Engineer in the oil and gas industry, as a Risk Manager in the finance industry and as an Adjunct Faculty teaching undergraduate Chemistry courses. He is a member of AIChE and is on the Board of several non-profit organizations.
