Brian Stoner

Brian Stoner, PhD, an expert in materials and electronic technologies, directs research activities related to biomedical materials and devices, vacuum microelectronics, and energy technologies. He is also leading a project for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to reinvent the toilet, developing a waste treatment system for use in developing nations that converts human waste into burnable fuel, stored energy, and disinfected non-potable water through a new biomass conversion unit. Dr. Stoner also manages research programs for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Army Research Office, the National Science Foundation, and the Department of Homeland Security. He holds 23 US patents related to novel microelectronic materials and systems, and has authored or co-authored two book chapters and more than 150 publications. He also is an adjunct professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University.
