Amedea Seabra

Amedea B. Seabra holds a diploma degree in Chemistry from University of São Paulo (USP). She finished her PhD at Chemistry Institute, State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in 2006. During her PhD, she worked with the preparation, characterization and biomedical applications of nitric oxide-releasing biomaterials. She incorporated nitric oxide donors in polymeric matrices comprised by solid films and hydrogels for pharmacological applications, including the coating of blood-contact medical devices and dermatological applications. Thereafter, she worked as a Research Fellow at UNICAMP (2006-2008) in the design of nitric oxide donors for the promotion of wound healing. She took postdoctoral studies at the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, Concordia University in Montreal, Canada (2008-2010) in the cardiovascular applications of nitric oxide donors. Since 2011 she is Associate Professor at Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP). Her present research is focused on the preparation, characterization and evaluation of the cytotoxicity of nitric oxide-releasing nanomaterials for biomedical applications. Her research is based on the combination of small molecular weight nitric oxide donors with polymeric and/or metallic nanomaterials for antimicrobial and anti-cancer activities, promotion of would repair, among other biomedical applications.
